Be thankful for your staff

It’s the time of year when we often reflect on where we are and what we’ve accomplished, but have you expressed being thankful for your staff?  It’s easy to take things for granted but we all like expressions of appreciation periodically.

When staff make extra efforts, do you make note?  Have you acknowledged their work? If asked, would they say you appreciate them?  When is the last time you made the effort to show your gratitude?

If you have staff who are not doing their job or never do above and beyond, you probably need to look in a mirror to determine why.  Employees typically reflect management.  If they’re motivated and hardworking, it’s often because they understand their role and believe it’s important to the organization.  They also feel appreciated and part of a team.

If there is a lot of absenteeism or turnover or it feels like pulling teeth to get some cooperation and/or enthusiasm, staff likely do not feel appreciated nor do they see their importance within the company.

If you can get everything done without any staff, that’s fine.  Maybe you don’t need them.  Likely that’s not the case, though.  Working with staff who are inspired to come to work and have the drive to perform can stimulate growth and lead to success.

Taking the time and effort to show your gratitude can pay off in productivity and enthusiasm.  It can also improve the culture of your organization and enhance creativity and initiative.

And it's the right thing to do.
