Have you thought about the talents that need to be developed in your company and the possibility of upskilling your staff? Do you work with them to find out what they want to study and encourage them to continuously learn and grow! Or are you too busy with day to day needs to worry about the future?
Not encouraging learning and upskilling is short-sited and will cause issues down the road. If staff aren’t constantly growing and learning new talents, they’re more likely to burn out or seek other opportunities. In addition, your organization may become stagnate and begin to deteriorate.
How often do you talk with staff about what they’ve learned? Is it clear that you encourage growth?
First, have conversations with staff to find out what they want to learn more about. Encourage them to move beyond, even if they profess contentment with where they are. We all should strive to learn new things each day and continue to enhance our skills.
Start meetings with discussions centering on growth and learning. Who learned something new that week? Who’s taking a course or going to a conference or reading an article or book? What have they gotten out of the experience? What skills can one staff teach another?
There are lots of opportunities for growth if we take the time to identify and reach out for them.
The world is constantly evolving, and we need to make efforts to keep up. Make it clear that learning is a priority for you and your organization. That can enhance growth and satisfaction with your employees.
