As the year gets closer to its end, we automatically think about the various holidays and all the things that go along with them. But have you planned for your career and your employees?
Many in management positions have participated in company SWOTs (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). You may have gone thru this exercise at work and helped put together the company's goals for the new year. But did you complete your own personal SWOT? Do you really know your own and your teams Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats?
This is a good time to concentrate on where you are and where you want to go. Additionally, are you aware of your staff’s goals and what you and they are doing to move them forward? Time flies so quickly it’s easy to lose track of the steps we need to take to create change, and if we’re not intentional, time continues with the status quo (or momentum starts moving backward).
Regardless of your chaotic schedule, take some time to remember where you want to go and what you need to get there. Map out a plan to be successful. Do the same with your employees. And if you don’t do annual performance reviews at this point, this can be a good tool to help with that when the time comes. Where do you and they want to be when it comes to year end 2023?
Jill Koenig is noted as stating “If a goal is worth having, it’s worth blocking out the time in your day-to-day life necessary to achieve it.” Consider it like GPS for your life so you’ll know where you’re going when you get there!
And this is a great opportunity to provide leadership to your team in showing them tools for success. Establishing a business plan for your life can help clarify your future.
