January is Blood Donor Awareness Month; have you considered hosting a blood driver at your location?  Why is that important and what can it mean for your staff?

According to the American Red Cross, blood donations help cancer patients, trauma patients, burn patients, sickle cell patients and more.  They note that every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, and approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S.

One donation can help save more than one life.

Unfortunately, supply can’t always meet demand because only a small percentage of individuals donate yearly.  This can directly affect managers and staff alike.  It’s not unusual to find that someone you know has been affected by availability, or lack of, blood supplies.

The good thing is that donating blood is a relatively easy procedure and takes a limited amount of time.  Coordinating a mobile drive through various organizations is also easy and brings the collection facilities to your site. Allowing staff to donate at work is an excellent way to support your local community and help your employees feel good about working together to increase life-savings supplies.

Blood drives literally save millions of lives each year.

So consider coordinating a blood drive with your staff.  If you have a small company, talk to other companies in your area to see if you can group together for one.  Blood drive organizers may have mobile drives already planned for your area.

Donating blood supports your staff and your community.
