Encourage entrepreneurs in your organization

We often think of entrepreneurs as individuals starting their own companies.  But staff can be entrepreneurs in the organization they already work for!

While being an entrepreneur typically involves assuming personal and financial risk, the key aspect in being an entrepreneur is in driving economic growth and innovation.  We all want that within our organizations, and not all individuals want to assume the financial and personal risk involved in branching out alone.

So what does it mean to encourage entrepreneurs within an organization?  Do you have a culture that invites new ideas? Do you allow brainstorming and innovation? Do you talk with your staff about any and all ideas they may have to improve aspects of their job or the product or services provided?

Providing outlets that embrace new ideas can be key to innovation.  Periodically ask staff what they would do differently and why.  Task them with coming up with new ideas and embrace all recommendations, even if they’re not used.  Many of us don’t like to speak out for fear of being ridiculed or embarrassed; celebrating all ideas positively can squash those concerns.

Staff who are working their jobs day in and out have the best perspectives as to what’s working and what’s not.  By encouraging feedback, you may find you have potential for growth that’s never been realized.

Encourage staff to be entrepreneurs at their jobs and celebrate the opportunities that provides!

Encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship within your organization to embrace new ways of working!
