Bullies at work

Do you have bullies at work? Is it possible you could be the bully or an enabler?
There is a lot of drama in the world these days and it can seem more acceptable to be rude or to yell or to treat fellow employees poorly. But if that’s going on in your organization, you should rethink that type of culture.
People tend to be less than their best when they’re frustrated, nervous or afraid. If you have someone in your organization with a short fuse, what damage are they causing? Sometimes there are “star” employees who may be great at sales or brilliant with technology or have some other appreciated trait. But if the downside of this employee is that everyone walks on eggshells around them, then how are they affecting overall productivity?
It may seem like the best thing to do for the organization is to look the other way. But the reality is that you’re not doing your organization, your staff, or even the individual involved any favors.
If you have anger issues or you tend to let your frustrations get the best of you, determine what needs to happen to improve and get the help needed. If someone else in your organization is doing that, offer them the same opportunity. If you can turn around your or their behavior, everyone wins.
If you have an employee who resists change and believes everyone else is the problem and they’re too valuable to be termed, consider the type of organization you want and how others are affected with this and consider your options.
We all need to work to promote positive cultures in our organizations; it’s the right thing to do.
